David A. Adler
- How Tall, How Short, How Faraway
- Grade 2-4-A lively discussion of the history of measurement that incorporates some hands-on activities. Students may be surprised to learn that in ancient Egypt, parts of the body were used as measuring tools; a digit was the width of one finger, and a palm was the width of four fingers. Terms such as span and cubit are similarly defined.
- Andy Russell, NOT Wanted by the Police
- Gr 2-4-While his neighbors the Perlmans are on a research and sightseeing vacation, Andy watches their house. Helping the young detective is Tamika Anderson, who lived with them while her parents were recovering from an accident, but is now staying with the Russells. The children find trash in their neighbors' garbage can and signs that someone is in the house.
- Cam Jansen and the Mystery of the U.F.O.
- "What wrongdoer is any match for Cam Jansen, the girl with the amazing photographic memory?" ( Booklist) "An uncluttered plot, a clever heroine, clear language, and a dash of humor make for a zestful mystery."(School Library Journal).
- Cam Jansen: The Mystery of the Television Dog #4
- "What wrongdoer is any match for Cam Jansen, the girl with the amazing photographic memory?" ( Booklist) "An uncluttered plot, a clever heroine, clear language, and a dash of humor make for a zestful mystery."(School Library Journal).
- Picture Book of Patrick Henry
- Grade 1-3-In another fine addition to the series, Adler tells the story of Patrick Henry from his childhood on a tobacco plantation through his career as a lawyer, politician, and governor of Virginia. The author skillfully integrates quotations from primary sources into the narrative. There is no fictionalizing of thoughts or dialogue.
- Cam Jansen: The Tennis Trophy Mystery #23
- Grade 2-4--Cam once again uses her photographic memory and sleuthing skills in this 23rd installment in a popular series. The plot is slight. Although a missing tennis trophy from a match between two faculty members is not apt to be of high interest to beginning chapter-book readers, the fact that the chief suspect is a teacher may garner some interest.
- Cam Jansen: The Catnapping Mystery #18
- Grade 2-4-In this 18th adventure, Cam Jansen, her parents, and her friend Eric are on their way to meet her aunt at the Royal Hotel. There, Cam overhears a conversation between a distressed hotel guest and Michael, the bellhop. Esther Wright states that on her arrival, she gave her luggage and her traveling companion, "Little Tiger," to a bellhop outside the hotel to take to her room.
